How to throw a virtual hen party

How to throw a virtual hen party

With the current situation and social distancing seeming to be going nowhere anytime soon, throwing a hen party in the normal way is basically impossible, which totally sucks. We have teamed up with our pals over at uber cool hen planning service CLUCK to explain that fun can still be had- whether having a full on virtual hen party or if you are just planning something to mark what would have been the special day (we like to call it it the un-hen party!) Over to the team at CLUCK....

Hey there! We’re CLUCK, an alternative hen party planning company run by three best pals. Normally we spend our days creating & organising bespoke hen party packages and experiences for cool, modern women….but that’s been a bit tricky of late. You don’t need us to tell you that the last month has been an utter s**t-show, no more than for brides that have had to reschedule their 2020 hen parties & weddings.

For that reason we’ve put together some tips on holding a virtual hen party for the bride-to-be, on what would have been her hen party date! It’s a great way to connect in lockdown, have some fun together ahead of the “real” hen party later down the line, and most importantly, put a much needed smile on the face of the bride-to-be.

Here’s CLUCK’s expert tips on how to hold the virtual (un) hen party from heaven….

VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS & ACTIVITIES

Yes we are in the midst of a global pandemic….but it’s 2020 and that means we can all still create, make and learn together virtually, whilst having a laugh AND supporting small businesses during a testing time! Here are a few of our faves…

MAKE YOUR OWN FLOWER CROWNS OR BOUQUETS – channel your inner Frida Kahlo with a floral crown workshop, or create a gorgeous hand tied bouquet to appreciate and enjoy during lockdown. Hosted by the lovely Amy, a small independent planner, stylist and florist who will hand deliver your kits the day of the party (within M25), and will ensure you have a lot of fun whilst learning on your Zoom workshop. Then you can either have a group  shot in your gorgeous new crowns, or you can pop your bouquet in a vase and admired!

AT-HOME SCENTED CANDLE WORKSHOP - could there be a better skill to learn during lockdown than how to make a scented candle?! During this online class you will join one of our expert candle makers, as a team you will be guided through our candle making process. Prior to your workshop you will receive a candle kit containing all the core materials and equipment you’ll need to make your scented soy wax candle. You will also be able to choose your own botanical oil scent profile and custom candle label. Via Zoom, they'll share hints and tips on creating candles from the comfort and safety of your home.

VOGA - we've all seen the plethora of online yoga classes but this isn't yoga....this is VOGA. Fusing wellbeing with party vibes, VOGA is the perfect at-home hen experience. Set to an iconic soundtrack of 80s diva classics, it combines the movement of yoga with the expressive moves of a dance class. The idea is to dress to express, so don your most fabulous gear and we'll see you in the living room.

LIFE DRAWING- yep that’s right…see a naked hunk in all his glory AND learn how to draw without leaving your living room. Arm yourselves with a drawing pad and (plenty of) prosecco, and prepare to unleash your hen’s inner artist. Through a series of fun exercises & effective tips from a professional artist you’ll learn a new skill centred around observing – and recreating – the human body in all its beauty (aubergine emoji).

THEMED DANCE CLASS – what better way to let loose and have a much needed laugh than some living room choreography with your pals?! Whether it’s Beyonce, Dirty Dancing, Disney or 90’s Pop, the list of themes is endless (as is the fun to be had).

SEND THE BRIDE A CARE PACKAGE

Ahead of the virtual party, why not send a little care package so the bride is stocked up with treats for the event. You can either send a surprise supermarket shop, or if you want something a little more “aesthetically pleasing” how about one of these…

ISOBEL BAKES CAKE POSTAL SERVICE– Isobel is offering a “Cake Postal Service” so you can send gorgeously presented cakes with a personalised card. Options include Biscoff brownie & salted caramel, banana & caramel cake, and sticky toffee pudding cake. And no, we won’t judge if you order one for yourself whilst you’re at it.

JIMMY'S SELF ISOLATON HAMPERS – Jimmy & his team have curated “isolation hampers” to suit all lockdown treat needs. Their “Night-In (Again)” hamper features mixed charcuterie, sourdough baguette, homemade pickles, olive oil and balsamic, homemade chutney, rosemary and garlic stuffed Camembert and the all important bottle of wine.

CUTTER & SQUIDGE'S "AFTERNOON TEA AT HOME"  - if your bride-to-be is a sophisticated lady, Cutter & Squidge are offering a boxed up version of their favourite afternoon tea treats delivered to your door. The box includes brownies, mini dreamcakes, scones, clotted cream, fruity jam & a tin of fine loose leaf tea.

BETROVAL BOX  – our pals at Team Hen have curated a beautiful box for brides-to-be, brimming with at least 7 must-have wedding products. Some will help plan and prepare for the big day, while others are designed to pamper and delight. They can be bought as a subscription or one-off purchase, plus delivery is free and get 15% off with code SPRING2020.

VIRTUAL HEN PARTY GAMES

There’s plenty of options that still work virtually….why not do a game of bingo or pub quiz themed around the bride, and of course Mr & Mrs will go down a treat, and is a great way to get the groom involved. And if he’s game, for ultimate LOLS you could have him do a “surprise” (semi) strip tease for the bride.

DRESS CODE

Just because you’re not physically together, doesn’t mean you can’t go all out with a dress code. All out glam with full make-up/hair is a nice way to make the event feel special (and it’s good for the soul to spend a few hours out of pyjama’s). Alternatively a fancy dress theme suited to the bride is also a great idea for guaranteed LOLS.
