Introducing Rewritten Bridal

Let's face it - 2020 was a rough year for the wedding industry. We are incredibly grateful to every single one of our customers, friends and family members that supported us through that turbulent time. Whether it was by not cancelling an order or by buying a face mask, it's because of you that we made it through. So we couldn't be happier to be back in the studio, doing what we love!

What better way to celebrate than to launch our first ever sustainable bridal range? Here we take a behind the scenes look at how we created Rewritten Bridal.

The Simone Dress

FROM DESIGN TO DRESS

All Rewritten dresses start in co-founder Fran’s sketch book in our East London studio, and Rewritten Bridal was no different.

'I take inspiration from the strong women that I have met and their personal styles, I try to imagine friends of mine wearing the dresses as I sketch them out - for me the ultimate goal is a dress that you feel incredible in and comfortable at the same time.'
Frances Cookson, Rewritten Creative Director

SOURCING THE FABRIC

We’re proud to say that the entire Rewritten Bridal collection is sustainable - crafted only in recycled and organic fabrics, and made in London. All fabrics used in the collection were sourced from industry leaders in sustainable fabrics - from the 100% recycled satin used in the Simone Dress, to the 100% organic “peace silk” in the Stevie Blouse (so named because it allows the completion of the metamorphosis of the silkworm to the butterfly, so that no animal has to suffer or die for fashion). We also learnt a lot about sustainable fabrics and practises in the process!

ON THE CUTTING TABLE

Once we were in love with the samples, the entire collection was crafted in a London workshop by skilled makers.

SHOOTING THE COLLECTION

We chose to shoot Rewritten Bridal in an urban concrete setting - so the dresses would be the focus - with our favourite fashion and wedding photographer Nic Ford. We couldn't be happier with how the shots turned out!

We created only one prop - a dried flower installation (which we made from flowers bought from Vauxhall Flower Market early one morning). The floral installation now hangs proudly in our Hackney Wick showroom.
